EVENT NAME:

MMCS INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ARBITRATION COMPETITION (MIMAC) 2025

FORMAT:
The competition is structured into two key phases:

  1. Written Submissions:
    Teams are required to draft memorials for both the claimant and the respondent, addressing complex legal issues in maritime arbitration.

  2. Oral Rounds:
    Participants will present their arguments before a distinguished panel of arbitration practitioners and academics. The competition includes:

    • General Rounds: Conducted online.

    • Semi-Finals: Conducted online.

    • Final Round: Conducted in-person in Malé, Maldives.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • Open to students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programs in law, arbitration, or maritime law.

  • Each institution may register up to two teams.

  • Teams must consist exclusively of students from the same institution.

  • Team members must not be admitted or licensed to practice law in any jurisdiction.

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • Registration Opens: 25th January 2025

  • Registration Closes: 7th June 2025

  • Moot Problem Release: First Saturday of April 2025

  • Clarification Requests Deadline: As specified on the MMCS website

  • Memorial Submission Deadline: 31st August 2025

  • General Rounds: 24th – 27th September 2025 (Online)

  • Grand Final & Awards Banquet: 25th October 2025 (In-Person, Malé, Maldives)

REGISTRATION FEES:

  • International Teams:

    • Standard Team (2–4 members): USD 85

    • Large Team (5–8 members): USD 85 plus USD 25 per additional member beyond the 4th

  • Teams from the Maldives:

    • Standard Team (2–4 members): MVR 1,000

    • Large Team (5–8 members): MVR 1,000 plus MVR 250 per additional member beyond the 4th

PRIZES & RECOGNITION:

  • Winner: USD 1,000 cash prize

  • Additional Awards:

    • Best Written Memorial for Claimant

    • Best Written Memorial for Respondent

    • Best Individual Oralist

    • Runner-Up Team

  • Certificates: Participation certificates for all team members; special certificates for awardees

  • Internship Opportunities: Offered to select participants by sponsors such as IAMC etc.
