CALL FOR APPLICATION: SVKM’s NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, Mumbai National Mediation Tournament

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of SVKM’s NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, Mumbai is hosting its first National Mediation Tournament on 13^th and 14^th February, 2021. We cordially extend an invitation to you for the same.

Mediation as a process of alternative dispute resolution is gaining traction all over the world with individuals as well as large conglomerates opting for it, over litigation. The BCI has recently mandated mediation and conciliation as compulsory subjects for law students. This makes it an indispensable skill to learn in the 21^st century. In consonance with the growing importance of the same, the National Mediation Tournament provides law students with an opportunity to hone their negotiation and mediation skills.

Be it the exemplary board of judges, who are distinguished professionals in their respective fields, or the exposure and experience each participant is guaranteed, NMT 2021 has a lot to offer.

REGISTRATION PROCESS:

1. Students pursuing their five-year integrated degree or a three-year bachelor’s degree in law from a recognized University/College are eligible to participate in the tournament.

2. There is a cap of 3 teams per University/College. This is inclusive of both mediating and negotiating teams.

3. The total intake for this competition is 32 negotiating teams and 16 mediating teams. The slots will be awarded on a competitive basis.

4. Interested institutions must fill the provisional registration form links attached below.

5. The provisional registration opens on 11^th January, 2021 and closes on 25^th January, 2021.

6. Release of the final list of participating colleges will be done at 8:00 pm on 27^th January, 2021.

7. Last date for payment of registration fee and confirmation of slots: 5^th February, 2021.

8. Teams in the waitlist will be given an opportunity in the event a shortlisted team fails to make the payment within the given deadline.

NOTE:

1. Application and selection process for each team, i.e. Negotiating Team and Mediator, is separate.

2. Negotiating team: Each negotiating team will consist of two members: one client and one counsel.

3. Mediating Team: Each mediating team will consist of only one mediator.

4. Universities can apply for either one or both teams.

5. Teams will be shortlisted for final registration on merit basis, at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.

6. This is a VIRTUAL competition.

IMPORTANT DATES:

·       Last date for Provisional Registration: 25^th January, 2021.

·       Release of shortlisted teams: 27^th January, 2021.

·       Last Date for Final Registration and Payment of Registration Fees: 5^th February, 2021.

·       Competition Dates: February 13-14, 2021.
