The 3rd ICC-HK International Commercial Mediation Competition


The ICC Dispute resolution services is pleased to announce the 3rd ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition - Hong Kong will be on from December 8th to 12th of December, organised by the International Chamber of Commerce - Hong Kong (“ICC-HK”) and by the Hong Kong Department of Justice, the latter promoting of Mediation First initiatives. The Competition provides students opportunities to earn valuable skills in mediation and mediation advocacy, which are essential competencies in modern dispute resolution in an increasingly multi-cultural and global marketplace.

EVENT NAME:

     The 3rd ICC-HK International Commercial Mediation Competition

ELIGIBILITY:

The Competition is open to all full-time and part-time students (excluding post- graduate doctorate students) registered in a university during the academic period during which the Competition is held. The Competition is open to students who do not have full-time work experience, except for full-time work experience in jobs unrelated to law or business management. Team members do not have to be of the same nationality as that of their universities. In order to enable as many Eligible Students as possible to participate in the Competition each year, each student is entitled to participate in the Competition as a Competing Team member only once.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The Organizing Committee will decide at its sole discretion which universities are accepted to participate in the Competition and such discretion is not appealable nor is the Organizing Committee bound to give reasons for its decision. For the 2024 Competition the Organizing Committee will accept a maximum of 20 Teams. Apart from such reserved places for winners, participation and ranking in a pre-moot have no positive or negative effect on and do not preclude the direct application to participate in the Competition Accepted universities must submit team member details within a given timeframe. General Selection criteria include ADR curriculum focus, past competition performance, and cultural diversity. Registration must be done by the university.

REGISTRATION FEE, TRAVEL, COSTS AND VISAS:

     Full payment is required within 14 days of the Organizing Committee accepting the Team’s Application or by October 20, 2024, whichever is earlier. Teams which do not proceed with the payment of the registration fee within the timeline granted by the Organizing Committee will not be admitted to the Competition. By applying for the Competition through the online application process, the university agrees to pay the registration fee in case it is selected to participate in the Competition by the Organizing Committee. Once selected, the Teams will be contacted by the Organizing Committee with further information about their participation (applying online, paying the registration fee, indicating the Team composition, etc.). Universities may use their own internal selection process to choose their Team members, within the limits imposed by the Eligibility criteria, according to the 2024 Competition Rules. The composition of the Teams is subject to final approval by the Organizing Committee, who will verify that the eligibility criteria are respected.

  •      Two students: HK$5,000 ≈ ₹54,138
  •      Three students: HK$6,500 ≈ ₹70,379
  •      Four students: HK$8,000  ≈ ₹86,621
  •      First coach: Included in initial registration fee
  •      Second coach: HK$1,500 ≈ ₹16,241

  • 27th October 2024:Online training workshop
  • 10th November 2024:Role play clarification submission deadline
  • 25th November 2024:Mediation Plan submission deadline
  • 8th December 2024:Opening and judges training
  • 9th-12th December 2024:Competition preliminary & final rounds
