2nd RGNUL Arbitration Essay Writing Competition, 2023

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution, in collaboration with Centre for trade and Investment Law Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India are organizing 2nd RGNUL Arbitration Essay Writing Competition, 2023.


Public law school and National Law University Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) is situated in Patiala, Punjab, India. The Punjab Government established it as a university devoted to the study of law in 2006 (Punjab Act No. 12 of 2006).

In order to conduct research and develop ADR capability, the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution, RGNUL (CADR-RGNUL) was founded in 2018. One of the main goals was to fill the gaps in the literature and to close the frequently intimidating gap between academic theory and the realities of an ADR profession.

 

 ABOUT THE COMPETITION:

The goal of the essay writing competition is to give young writers a platform to demonstrate their writing skill and a chance to explore a wide range of difficult and intriguing issues outside of the typical college curriculum. The students are supposed to examine and make recommendations for new and improved ADR practises to be implemented globally.

 

TOPICS:

  • Commercial Arbitral Awards as Investments in Investment Treaty Arbitrations
  • Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs) vs. Investment Chapters in Free Trade Agreements (FTAs)
  • Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) and Foreign Investment
  • Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) Mechanisms
  • Participation of Amicus Curiae in Investment Treaty Arbitration

Important Dates For The Competition
  • Opening of Registration: 4th September 2023
  • Last date to submit the Final Draft: 7th October 2023
  • Declaration of Results: 21st November 2023


Eligibility:

Students pursuing B.A., LLB, LLM, PhD, MPhil, or any other undergraduate or graduate programme (other than law) at any university in the world are eligible to participate in the competition.

Application Procedure:

Interested students before filling out the participation form MUST apply at soladr@ddn.upes.ac.in and cc to  anwesha.pathak@ddn.upes.in with all necessary details (including Name, Sap Id, Course & Batch, Year, and Contact number). In Case of any query, contact team ADR but kindly do not upload wrong information; the application shall be rejected outright, if any discrepancy is found.
