NUALS Mediation Competition 2026 (NMC 2026)
Organised by the NUALS ADR Society, National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi

FORMAT:

The competition will be structured as:

The competition will be conducted in hybrid mode with the Preliminary Rounds and Quarter-Finals held online on 18 January 2026, followed by offline Advanced Rounds (Semi-Finals and Finals) at NUALS Kochi on 15 February 2026. Each mediation session features two negotiating teams (Client–Counsel pairs) and two mediators, who are all assessed individually. Preliminary rounds involve two sessions per team, with sides pre-assigned and confidential information released 30 minutes prior. The top 8 Negotiating Teams and top 8 Mediators advance to the Quarter-Finals, after which all rounds follow a knockout format. Timings increase progressively: 45 minutes (Prelims), 60 minutes (QF), 90 minutes (SF & Finals), including caucus time.


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Participation is open to bona fide 3-year or 5-year LL.B. students enrolled in BCI-recognised institutions. Each university may send up to two teams, and cross-institutional teams are permitted only if the negotiating pair (Client & Counsel) belongs to the same institution. Team composition, once submitted, can only change under extraordinary circumstances with organiser approval.

TEAM COMPOSITION:

Each team must consist of three membersone Client, one Counsel, and one Mediator. In the preliminary rounds, participants must rotate roles so that no one plays Client or Counsel twice, while role choice becomes flexible in the advanced rounds. No team may be accompanied by a coach or instructor to the competition venue.

Registration Fees

  • Final Registration (Online Rounds):
    ₹4,500 per team
    – Mandatory for all selected teams
    – Confirms participation for Prelims & Quarter-Finals
    – Non-refundable
    Advanced Rounds (Offline at NUALS Kochi):
    ₹3,000 per team
    – Payable only by the top 4 teams who qualify for Semi-Finals & Finals
    Optional Accommodation (for offline rounds):
    ₹750 per night per person
    – For teams wanting campus-arranged stay during the February 15, 2026 rounds
    – Payable separately

Awards

  • Winner – Negotiating Team: ₹25,000 + Trophy + Certificate

  • Runners-Up – Negotiating Team: ₹15,000 + Trophy + Certificate

  • Winner – Mediator: ₹10,000 + Trophy + Certificate

  • Runners-Up – Mediator: ₹5,000 + Trophy + Certificate

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Interested Students before filling out Participation form Must apply by filling ADR APPLICATION FORM latest by  19th December 2025.  In case of any query, contact team ADR at soladr@ddn.upes.ac.in, but kindly do not upload wrong information; the application shall be rejected outright, if any discrepancy is found.
